Barcelona is known for its outstanding architecture, culture and most importantly its gastronomy. Therefore, what’s a better way to immerse oneself in the culture than through the food? Barcelona has many culinary experiences to offer. From wine tours to tapa tours and the most fun, cooking classes.
Why Take a Cooking Class?
By taking a cooking class in Barcelona, not only will you learn how to make the traditional dishes, but you will also eat them and of course take the recipes you have learned and try recreating them. Taking a cooking class is like killing two birds with one stone, getting to know the city’s culture through food and attending a more intimate and interactive activity rather than a regular touristic activity.
Cook&Taste Barcelona
Cook & Taste in Barcelona offers a variety of cooking classes. You can take a hands-on cooking class, gourmet market tour, private cooking experience, and foodie walking tour.

The hands-on cooking class and private cooking experience will allow you to discover cooking techniques, learn about the fresh and local ingredients, and immerse yourself in traditional Spanish cuisine. It begins with the chefs leading you to step by step through a 4-course Spanish meal and results in the hands-on class and enjoying your freshly prepared dishes.

The 4-course meals include two tapas, seafood, chicken or vegetarian paella based on dietary needs, and dessert of course. At the conclusion of the class, you will also be given the printed recipes so you can recreate the dishes whenever, wherever!
Tapas are similar to appetizers, a small snack that is very popular in Spain. Multiple tapas can turn into a meal which is why they are so popular here.
Even though Paella is a rice dish originally from Valencia, about 220 miles south of Barcelona, it is said to be Spain's national dish. Seafood paella and chicken paella taste quite different, therefore the taste of the dish changes depending on what the rice is cooked with.
Cook & Taste prides itself in mirroring the food to the local culture, history, and traditions. They want visitors to experience an authentic Spanish meal to the fullest.
"We always keep our visitors' health in mind and we will change some recipes to be vegan or gluten-free," said Chef Marco who works at Cook & Taste. Chef Marco also said, "it will still taste amazing depending on what you cook because the ingredients are so fresh."
The cost for the hands-on cooking class is 70 euros for adults and 45 euros for children. The Boqueria market gourmet tour is 12 euros for adults and 6 euros for children.
La Boqueria
La Boqueria is one of the most well-known markets in not only Barcelona but in the world. It is located in the center of the city near Las Ramblas, another well-known area. With various options of seafood, meats, cheeses, fruits, desserts and much more, La Boqueria offers something for everyone.
The market is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the closest metro stop is on the Green Line, L3, at Liceu.
Private Events
Cook & Taste also offers private events. A private chef can come to you, buy the produce and cook it all for you in the space of your choice. With professional and customized service, they will take care of everything while you sit back and relax, enjoying some delicious dishes.
You can also rent out their kitchens for events, displays, receptions and product presentations. The newly renovated space offers a relaxed and homey feel while still being able to accommodate large groups. The capacity is 60 people in 140 square meters with two fully equipped kitchens.
The cooking classes are also offered for study abroad programs. This allows students to immerse in the culture through gastronomy as well. What is better than learning how to cook Paella with a chef in Barcelona?
Sara, an American visiting Barcelona, stated "I would prefer a cooking class over any other activity because the food here is incredible, why not learn how to make their most well-known dishes with the freshest ingredients you'll ever find."
Overall, missing out on a cooking class is a huge mistake when visiting Spain. Immerse yourself just a bit more by drowning in olive oil, tomatoes, paella and potatoes. The city has so much to see but a lot more to taste.
